Grapetini Nails

Savvy by DB nail polish in Grapetini.
Exclusive to Priceline.
I was never the girl who wore nail polish. I never understood how to apply it. Worst of all, whenever I tried to apply it, it always ends up being ruined by a combination of my lack of skills, coordination and clumsiness, causing the nail polish application to be a hot mess. Losing faith during many of my pathetic attempts to apply nail polish like a "normal girl", I would ultimately admit defeat that I will never get it right, and proceed to take the ruined nail polish off with some nail polish removal on cotton pads. It happened so many times that I finally decided to give up and stop trying. I have since only admired other girls' nail art and the bottles of nail polishes in beautiful colours at the store from afar.
It was an encounter at Priceline where it had a box stocked with Savvy nail polishes discounted down to $2 that caught my interest again. I saw a purple nail polish in the shade "Grapetini" and decided I had to have it because its purple.
Well, it took me exactly 2 hours to apply it last night.
I know it will be a while until I ever attempt something like this again. :) Practice makes perfect.

Review: Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm

Today I am going to do a review of the Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm that I recently purchased when I was at Gold Coast. The packaging is in the form of a golden coloured egg. It sort of reminds me of the Golden egg in the Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, where it was the goal of the First Task in the Triwizard Tournament that Harry competed in. That being said, its a really pretty and cute packaging.

The Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm is meant to be used as a face primer and is to be applied right after moisturiser.

A description:
"TonyMoly Eggpore Silky Smooth Balm is a concealer that is enriched with protein, effectively make the pores on nose invisible. Contains Magnolia bark and bud bean extracts, it soothes the irritation caused by daily pollution and free radicals The egg and camellia extracts further control sebum secretion, leaving your face soft and oil-free, make up will last longer as well."

Top view of the cute packaging.  The product is stored in a plastic box which I find very handy.

The product is stored under a plastic lid inside the "golden egg".

The balm has a very smooth , silky and velvety texture.

The balm primer goes on very nicely, filling up and covering any noticeable pores and marks on the face. I  cant say much about oil control, as my face still got a bit oily throughout the day. It did help with the oil control a little bit. The texture of the primer makes any face base products glide on alot better. It gives the face a more flawless finish and the face also feels really soft. I find that this works really well with BB creams, but I have not tried it with foundations. It also makes your face base product last alot longer throughout the day with less need to touch up. The primer can also be used on its own to even out skin and minimise the appearance of pores.

However, this product is silicon based so those with more sensitive skin or is allergic to silicons should be careful. Better yet, if you're allergic to silicons, stay away from this. It is not advisable to use this everyday as it may clog pores. I will only use it for special occasions. I really dont think I want to use this for a normalday; its just too much work and Im lazy. ;)

In conclusions, it is definitely worth a try. It is a really good primer for those with enlarged pores that wants a flawless finish on the face, with a little oil control to help mattify the face.

On another note, look what came in the mail today. I didn't think it would happen but here it is. Now, time to write an appeal letter. Grrrrr.

Favourite skin care products so far.

This is a slightly different post today. I was planning to write this post tonight but I caved and started to type it on my trusty Samsung S3 phone during my lunch break today. As I furiously tried to distract myself from thinking with my cluttered brain and silently cursing my impromptu decision to work extra hours, it hit me with the thought that I could start writing this blog post during work so I can spend less time on it later. So here I am, thanks to the very handy Blogger app on my phone, which by the way is my new favourite app at the moment [right after Instagram ;)], writing this in the midst of my 10 hour work shift today. I love the Blogger app because whenever I am inspired to write even when I am out and about, I can open the app and start typing... easy peasy!!

Now enough with the introduction, this post will be about my favourite skin care product so far. I was initially going to name it "top skin care product of 2012", but given that its nearing the end of January, and I have been using the same stuff since last year anyway (because I am way too scared to change!), so I shall re-name this post as "Favourite skin care product SO FAR".

Okay, first item on the agenda is Cleanser.

I love love love the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleaner. I have used this for so long. It is one of those product that has always been in my bathroom. My whole family loves it and uses it. It gently cleanses the face leaving behind a nice clean feeling. Its so gentle that even the most sensitive skin can use it with minimal or no breakouts.

Another cleanser that I have been loving is the Ponds Cold Cream. This has been my lifesaver when my skin decided to misbehave and formed patches of dry scaly skin. It is especially good to use with normal to dry skin. I found this at my local Chemist Warehouse one fortunate day many many months ago for $3 each and had to buy it. I think I bought 3 bottles for me and mum to share. This Ponds Cold Cream is highly regarded around the world. It is a cleanser and makeup removal. And here is the best part, you don't even need water to use it which I found really intriguing. I cant really explain it but when you rub it into your face, the cream sort of dissolve while taking all the grub and yucky stuff off your face. You need to try it to experience the weird sensation you get from using it. I normally use it with a wash cloth, and I find myself rinsing my face with water afterwards. Just to be safe.

A face scrub that I always use is the Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub. I think I'm on my third bottle. I also vaguely remember using this scrub throughout my high school years. The only downside is that they recently changed the packaging to blue and white colour. The formula is still the same but I like the old packaging way better.

The second item is Toner

The toner that I swear by is Dickinson's Witch Hazel Toner. Best toner ever. Enough said.

Next item is Face Serum

I have used Rosehip Oil as a serum for more than a year now. It has reduced my sun spots, hyperpigmentation and acne scars tremendously. It leaves the skin smooth and glowing. It does take a while to work so you have to have patience. I use it only once a week. It does make the skin quite oily looking especially for combination/oily skin. But I found that mixing 2 drops of rosehip oil with a little bit of water can help minimise the oiliness. Also, don't put it all over the face, just areas of the face that need it.

Last but not least, let's talk about Moisturiser.

My absolute favourite moisturiser is the Neutrogene Oil - Free Moisturiser for Combination Skin. I can't remember how many times I have rebought the same bottle over and over again. It is so light and absorbs into the skin quickly, without leaving an oily layer on the skin that some moisturisers do. There is also a version for sensitive skin for those with sensitive skin.

Guess who got lucky today? ^^

Wanting, Needing & Having

"There's a difference between wanting, needing, & having. Once you have what you want, make sure that what you want & have is what you need."

-Unknown-

Wanting, needing and having can be seen to have the same meaning. I mean, some of our things that we have can be viewed as things that we want and need. Most people sought out to buy things that they want and need, and therefore have. For others, it is a battle between choosing something that they need over something that they want. But what happens when we cannot differentiate between things that we want, need or have.

In Economics, a need is something you have to have, and a want is something you would like to have. It's human nature to want things, whether it be material things, a person, a feeling or even for an event to happen. But do we really need these things? Do they define our happiness, our sense of worth or how we value ourselves? Ever heard of the term, "money can't buy happiness"? Money is obviously what many of us want, but can having more money really make us happy? Some may argue that, yes money indeed do buy  happiness. But I firmly believe, the richer you are, the less happy you are. You can disagree all you want.

In a nutshell, there is a difference between wanting, needing and having something. It is imperative to know the difference between needing something and wanting another. We should fulfill the things in life that we need, before going after things that we want. Most importantly, we should find happiness in the things that we already have.

An introduction

Hey!
This is my first post. I wasn't really sure what I should write about as an introduction to this blog. So I'm just going to write about me, I guess?!

My name is Michelle. I am 20 years old, and a full time student. As my blog name suggests, I love the colour PURPLE.

I started this blog because I just wanted something to do after work, something to keep myself busy. Some place where I can write about everything and anything. I also love reading other people's blogs, from various topics such as beauty, books, movies..etc. On a daily basis, you may find me scrolling through various blogs while travelling to and fro from work. Other than that, I do enjoy indulging myself in a good book, watching tv shows, eating food, and browsing the internet.

Anyway, that's all for now.
